Bethanna Holiday Shopping — Nov 22, 2025
There are days when the simple act of giving becomes the most meaningful lesson for our kids. On Saturday, November 22, 2025 the Firebirds Circle gathered at Walmart in Warrington to shop for Bethanna’s holiday program — a day of purpose, quiet pride, and joyful chaos as we shopped, and learned together.
Our group of volunteers (13 strong) split into small teams to tackle wish lists. We aimed to make the holiday season brighter for the families Bethanna supports. Together we shopped for and prepared gifts that will be presented at the Annual Holiday Party in December.
What made the morning special wasn’t just the items we bought — it was how the day unfolded as a hands-on lesson for our Adventure Guides:
- Bonding: parents and children worked side-by-side, comparing sizes and choosing colors, trading suggestions, and finding small moments of shared laughter in a busy store.
- Learning to give: children experienced first-hand the idea that a purchase can become a gift for someone else. We discussed why each item mattered and how our choices could help a family in need.
- Empathy in action: kids practiced thinking beyond themselves — picking items that would be useful and appropriate for the recipient, not just what they liked.
- Teamwork and leadership: small groups made quick decisions, carried items to the car, and helped one another at the checkout.
Event highlights
- Volunteers: 13 parents and Adventure Guides
- After shopping: many families joined together for brunch to celebrate the teamwork and share stories.
Why this matters
As YMCA Adventure Guides we teach values by doing. Events like Bethanna Holiday Shopping are powerful because they combine service with father-child connection and practical lessons about community responsibility. Our kids leave with more than a present — they leave with stronger empathy, memories of helping others, and an embodied understanding that communities thrive when people show up.
Thank you
Thank you to every volunteer who shopped, wrapped, donated, or organized. Your time and generosity directly support families in need and model compassionate leadership for our children.
